“I’m proud to be Black, fat, alternative and inspirational” — Raisa Flowers on breaking the beauty industry

How Big Is Your **** ? is the 4-part podcast series where size doesn’t matter, perspective does. Brought to you as part of Calvin Klein’s ongoing #proudinmycalvins campaign, INDIE is exploring the concept of pride and how it manifests all year round—not just in Pride Month.

To New York‘s creative cognoscenti, Raisa Flowers needs no introduction. The make-up artist, beauty icon, model and muse has worked with everyone from Pat McGrath to Kelela to Rihanna, and she’s continually pushing for a more inclusive and honest industry.

Flowers is known for her bold, expressive and experimental approach to make-up, which she attributes in part to her mother (a make-up aficionado for as long as she can remember) and her own coming of age in the New York club scene. “Nightlife really helps figures out who you are in yourself and just being able to express it to the world,” she tells LA-native, INDIE’s Izzy von Jones in the first episode of the How Big Is Your **** podcast . “You can be your wildest truest self in the nighttime.”

For the inaugural INDIE podcast, Flowers joins von Jones over Zoom to talk morning routines, her “work smarter, not harder” mentality, and what it means to make moves in the industry.

“I’m proud that I’m able to do this work, be the person I am, be alternative, be Black, be fat, be all these things, and still inspire.”
