INDIE MIX #16: Bambii

It’s hard to definitively describe the sound of Canadian DJ BAMBII—her eclectic mixes oscillate between everything from afrobeat, R&B, trap and footwork to funk. Drawing from a broad spectrum of genres—both sonically and geographically—BAMBII’s talent lies in making diverse sounds feel at home within the same set, tied together by an ineffable—and infectious—sense of energy.

Her dynamic sets have seen her grace the decks at Brooklyn’s notorious nightspot, AFROPUNK, and travel across the globe, supporting none other than R&B royalty Kelela and Mykki Blanco, and playing parties as far as Europe and Asia. All the while, BAMBII is pushing her political and progressive agenda—breaking down cultural barriers with sound.

Amidst working on her debut EP, and hosting her infamous JERK party on her home ground in Toronto, BAMBII took the time out to record an exclusive mix for INDIE readers.”This latest mix listens more like a personal soundscape,” BAMBII explains. “I’ve become interested in capturing audio/ambience from my real life and placing it alongside diverse club music that narrates so many past and present feelings. This mix features some of my favourite artists and also genres like footwork, drum & bass, ballroom, and remixed R&B.”
