With a striking back catalogue of laid-back, youthful fashion editorials, photographer Aylen Torres boasts a distinct ability to capture the playful interaction between fashion and subculture. His new editorial Le Spectre is no different. The images continue to emulate club culture and the spirit of youth, whilst bold styling elements elevate the ensembles into the avant-garde sphere. Sunglasses and a cap, ordinarily playful accessories, are appropriated as tools of concealment forming a steely mask when paired with white face paint. The editorial takes on a surreal, near-to ghostly, turn through Torres’ imposing composition. What happens when the outlandish becomes spectral? In Le Spectre boyish rebellion enters unsettling new dimensions.
