BTS AT INDIE’S INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY BRUNCH

Sunday brunch, but make it matter. On 8th March, INDIE and friends spent the day in typical Sunday fashion—with a couple of important differences. Our team were joined by over 70 women from across Berlin to celebrate International Women’s Day. In partnership with Nike, INDIE took Berlin’s now-public holiday as an excuse to communicate, educate and celebrate the complexities of womanhood, congregating at Neukölln’s Colonia Nova event space to enjoy each other’s company, share food and drinks, listen to women’s stories and most importantly raise money for LARA Berlin.

Throughout the 3-course brunch, a selection of women took to the stage to share their stories. Janna Gockel spoke on behalf of LARA Berlin, shedding light on the important work the centre does—offering counselling services to female-identifying victims of assault, abuse and harassment, including sex workers and refugees. Artist Isra Abdou shared her experience of growing up as a PoC Muslim girl in Berlin, and how she found refuge and community through sport. Life-coach and founder of Berlin’s Women’s Circle Tessa Dongelmans talked about the importance of women-only spaces and conversations, before UK-born, Berlin-based Kate Cheka finished off with some comic relief. Members of all-female DJ collective No Shade, Sibel and Carmel, then took to the decks until the event wrapped up in the late afternoon, while people explored the space, engaging in a live face filter by digital artist Tabitha Swanson, paintings by Annabell Häfner and garments by designer Laura Gerte.

We’d like to thank Nike, Colonia Nova, Our Berlin vodka, all our speakers, artists and guests and everyone who made this event possible. See the photos by Anne Freitag below.
