Necessity is the mother of invention—and magical Instagram accounts, apparently.
Fantastic fashion and pop culture mash-ups and where to find them–this is not something you’re ever likely to ponder if you’ve had the luck of stumbling upon the magical @gryffindior Instagram account. Part Dior fan account, part Harry Potter haven, this delightful account is a hybrid high-low experience that makes you smile and want to hit that share button instantaneously.
A nod to your childhood and a wink at your sartorial interests, we chatted to the founder of @gryffindior about what’s going down in the DMs, Hermione and humour.
How did @gryffindior start?
Gryffindior started out of necessity. I was looking for the quickest way to learn Photoshop and needed a project to make the experience easier. The pun of it all is really why I chose to mash up Dior on Harry Potter characters, as well as being a huge fan of both.
Do you get any interesting DMs and what are they usually about?
I do get a lot of DMs right after I’ll post something new. Most are complimentary, and others are people suggesting what I should do next. And I do respond to everyone who sends me a message. I like to acknowledge other’s kind words.
If you could cast a spell and own any Dior look, what would you choose?
Oh wow, tough question. It would probably be something from the 2018 Couture collection. That collection was witchy and 100% my aesthetic.
Do you know if any of the Harry Potter cast members have seen the
account?
I was actually just told Emma Watson is aware of the account. A mutual friend showed it to her, and she was a fan! I mean, does it get better than that?
What’s the highest reaching image you’ve ever posted?
I think it’s Hermione in a Sisterhood Global tee. It may be because it feels really natural, and came right after the collection walked the runway.
How do you decide which look to pair with which character?
I really just do it on a whim. I’ll spot a look that makes sense with a certain character and I find the right pairing for it. Some are easier than others.
What’s in the future for @gryffindior?
I’ll keep creating posts as long as people keep following. I love that it makes people laugh and tag their friends. It’s meant to bring some humour into your feed!
