ON x ZENDAYA: Four takes on movement, from club to community
Ask musician Nene H, filmmaker Tsellot Melesse, dancer Hannah Hamam or creative producer Angelique Houben what movement means, and nobody mentions the word “exercise”. Instead, it’s what drives them, what pushes them on, and, in Berlin, what keeps putting them in the same rooms as other people, be that a pole studio, a dancefloor, a trail, a dinner table.
Oklou: HEARTSTRINGS ATTACHED
In the past, she’s described her music as “childish”, a word which, alone, undersells the complexity of her craft. Still, there is an irrefutable sense of playfulness to Oklou's music. Woven with pastoral flutes, trumpet fanfares, and harp-like arpeggios, her melodies often feel as though they belong to another age: quasi-medieval, baroque, folk-tinted—recalling the otherworldly nostalgia of a Runescape quest or an enchanted fairytale.
“I’m attracted to very catchy melodies,” she explains. “There’s a faithfulness that touches me… the concept of finding the simple line that will really kick you in the heart.”
