There is something rather elusive about the streets of Lithuania. Nestled in a landscape of fields and lakes, meadows and wetlands, they draw through the country’s hinterland like a cluster of veins, each introducing a wholly new area to explore. Driving through this net of seemingly infinite asphalt, one might as well be part of a fanatically angst-inducing film with an assured set of eerie twists and turns looming ahead. Luckily, in our case, these twists and turns were just organic, and rather innocuous, parts of the route leading us from Vilnius through Poland to Berlin on the road trip we embarked on in the Kia Stinger.
A modern sports car marrying minimalistic design with futuristic technology, the Kia Stinger was first introduced in 2017, and soon conquered not just streets, but critics’ hearts as well: in 2018, Kia’s team received the prestigious Red Dot: Best of the Best design award for the car’s outstandingly sleek and agenda-setting exterior. A bright red splash of colour, the Kia Stinger radiates this cutting-edge approach even in the most gloomy, dark and dense of environments — as photographer Clara Nebeling captivatingly captured while heading through the vast hinterlands of Eastern Europe. With its only recently gained independence and current post-Soviet revival, Lithuania quickly proved to be the perfect starting point for our desire to explore these history-heavy streets — the Kia Stinger’s sports-inspired and aerodynamic shape almost floating through this scenery of murky skies and seemingly melancholy surroundings.
