This project is the result of the collaboration between Simone Steenberg and Megan Courtis, together with a team of twenty emerging female creatives that came together from around London and Berlin. With means of photography and video, they explore female fantasies and eroticisms in a rather humorous, playful and subverted way.
In “Twisted Home” we see photography as performance, as entire environments. In the words of Simone, “scenes often begin in the domestic, not only to criticise a space of oppression, but also to reimagine a setting traditionally female. In exaggerating tensions and features of ‘the home’, the work becomes absurd, sexually explosive, and potentially dangerous.”
“It does not only explore natural beauty, but also the ‘too much,’ the artificial and the taboos. The project ‘stays with the trouble’: it commits to performativity and fashion but as modes of individual expression and expansion rather than constraint, subverting things from the inside-out.”
