After studying under Raf Simons, Veronique Branquinho and Bernhard Willhelm, Berlin-based Andra Dumitrascu launched Dumitrascu. Curating a former unlabelled “wearspace” on Berlins eponymous Mulackstrasse 34, she created an open concept platform for brands, designers and artists. The shop in Berlin, Mitte (now going by Salbazaar) is has succeeded in introducing numerous international designers to Berlin’s audience.
During Paris Fashion Week SS17 Dumitrascu launched its debut collection, a vibrant amalgam of 90s street-wear, club culture, Victorian silhouettes and the occasional reference to haute couture. The all-gender garments combine classic tailoring with high-tech nylons, silk tartans and hand-painted fabrics paired with a humourous attitude and style.
RAW 1718, the new collection, is vibrant and unisex, mixing sports, rave, military silhouettes, alpinist vibes and street couture. All items are tailor made in either Berlin, Belgium, or Switzerland, and the use of both deadstock and small-run traditional fabrics, some items are made in tiny batches. A special collaboration with Weekday, the fetishjeans couture is a classic loose fit made in organic cotton, and can be worn either as shorts or as trousers when used with the incorporated straps – see more of Dumitrascus’s AW17 collection below.
