If you are feeling disappointed of your summer stay on the Adriatic Sea’s overcrowded beaches or you don’t want to recall your endless queueing to try a cookie dough ice cream on the Boulevard de la Croisette, think twice for your next holiday destination. If you imagine your summer break to be a mix of long walks through wheat fields, bohemian dinners under Chinese lanterns, and purple evening sky, Solène Ballesta might be your next holiday planner. In her work called “Nature Boy”, the photographer captures the most resourcing summer place to be: nature. Depicting a bucolic environment is commonplace for sure but she brilliantly challenges temporality while propelling us into a 19th pastoral melancholia and raises our collective oversight for a simple lifestyle. The Provençal santon silhouette – a wicker basket, a large circular straw hat, and a loose white shirt – is essentially the answer to simplicity we were lacking of. “In the intimacy of fields and forests, we’ve imagined a tale of a nature boy wandering under the summer sun. Like a living dream and all the oddities it involves,” Solène Ballesta confesses.
