LANA DEL REY’S NEW TRACK FEATURES A$AP ROCKY & PLAYBOI CARTI

Lana Del Rey’s hotly anticipated fourth album Lust For Life is tipped for release in just a couple of weeks, and the enigmatic singer has just shared a sneak peek of another song from the record. The untitled Boi1da-produced track features Del Rey’s long-time collaborator A$AP Rocky, who featured on the song “National Anthem” from her Paradise LP, starring as JFK in the accompanying video.

We made a lot of good ones but I think we picked the best ones for the record @asaprocky @playboicarti @boi1da

But what caught our eye, and for all the wrong reasons, is the feature of Playboi Carti on the song. The “Magnolia” rapper was arrested outside LAX last Thursday for domestic battery after an argument with his girlfriend of 3 years got physical. According to TMZ, the argument started when Carti wanted to ring his partner’s mother, but she didn’t want to; he proceeded to snatch her phone from her hands and grab her by her backpack to drag her out of the terminal.

Witnesses reported seeing red marks on the woman’s chest from the bag’s straps, but police didn’t report any physical injuries on either Carti or his girlfriend, who apparently also slapped the rapper.

We’re sad to see another example of the music industry supporting artists with histories of domestic violence. Who can forget those photos of Rihanna after she was assaulted by her then-boyfriend Chris Brown, who was issued with a five-year restraining order by another ex, Karrueche Tran, just last month. Despite extensive press coverage after pleading guilty to felony assault of Rih, he released an album later that same year; and just last week WizKid announced that Brown will feature on a track on his next project.

We’ll see what we think of Del Rey’s latest offering when it drops on July 21, but this collaboration will certainly colour our views on the release…
