All models working in France must now provide a doctors certificate stating they are at a healthy body weight before being able to legally work.
The bill, which was passed by French MPs on Thursday, requires employers to see a doctor’s certificate before hiring models. Those who don’t will pay up to €75,000 in fines and may face six months in prison.
As part of the ‘anti-anorexia package’ in France’s new public health laws, magazines and advertising companies are required to state if published images have been retouched. As of January 1, 2017, companies who fail to comply with these laws face a massive fine of at least €37,500 or 30% of what the advertisement made.
