In this day and age, where a lot of subcultures are born online, one thing is for sure: fashion, music, film and art never influenced each other as much and as fast as they do today. Here is a list of our five favorite music hybrids, that we didn’t want you to miss!
WIZARD ROCK
Characterized by humorous lyrics in songs about the Harry Potter universe, Wizard Rock is a genre that developed in 2002 and even attracts listeners outside of the book’s fan base.
ACID FOLK
As its name says: Acid Folk is an electronic and pretty psychedelic version of Folk music, so you better prepare yourself with a glass of red wine at least when listening to it.
SEA PUNK
Due to the Tumblr generation, Sea Punk’s mixture of Electro, Techno, Trap, RnB and Pop became not just a music, but also a huge fashion trend back in 2011. You know – before Azealia Banks ripped off the whole subcultural aesthetic for her music video „Atlantis“.
WITCH HOUSE
Witch House is not just one of the first music hybrids that ever came up online, it’s probably the saddest one, too. It combines elements of Electro Goth, Darkwave, Industrial, Synthpop and Old School Hip Hop and very mysterious, dark and occult visuals.
GHETTO GOTH
Invented by New Yorker DJane Jazmin „Venus X“ Soto, Ghetto Goth was an underground party in the beginning that quickly became its own music genre with a very experimental and unique range of Trance, Pop, Hip Hop and exotic, carribean sounds.
