The Dutch have always been about living – and designing – by their own rules. Considering the long-standing hype around the Dutch design scene, it makes sense that young avant-garde designers are now experiencing their own international boom. With their fearless and obsessive designs, our seven featured Dutch designers and labels are breaking with commercial convention. Curated and produced by photographer Michelle Helena Janssen and stylist Indiana Roma Voss, our “ones to watch” describe themselves in few, to very few, words.

“MARTAN is fearless in taking on new and creative talents. It is about building a continuously evolving super-team. The focus lies within the design process and the developing and translating of the concept through working with new materials, design principles and context.” – MARTAN

“You can recognise my collections by a strong sense of volume and asymmetry in a new kind of Japanese punk feeling.” – AILENE

“Beauty fades, ugly is forever.” – MAISON THE FAUX

“Our collection of garments is a dedication to diverse textile crafts in order to create a new collaged aesthetic. It is a take on the DIY culture, creating new work ad hoc with what is currently available to our practice. With these time-consuming we celebrate the arts and crafts that stand against the ‘fast produced – fast consumed’ fashion industry.” – MARRYME-JIMMYPAUL

“‘Rouge 66,’ the latest HARDEMAN collection, is based upon the principle of glamorous denim. The collection is influenced by prom nights and homecoming eves. Expect traditional denims with high cut splits, low dropped backs hugging your curves in all the right places. No matter what the size.” – HARDEMAN

“TRINHBECX is a design duo formed by ArtEZ graduates Tung Trinh and Tim Becx. Our affection for working with different materials such as silk, denim, PVC and leather and our passion for craftsmanship are essential for the TRINHBECX aesthetics. By redefining and combining traditional men’s and women’s garments, we try to push boundaries within fashion.” – TRINHBECX

“Don’t expect me to remain the same.” – DURAN
