Following the series of parody IKEA merchandise (the IKEA branded blue thong comes to mind), the brand has accepted the inevitable and announced a collaboration with fashion’s elite Off-White. IKEA announced the influential collaboration via their Instagram yesterday with a photo of Off-White designer Virgil Abloh prototyping the infamous 99 cent blue bag.

Never one to shy away from a new industry to conquer, Virgil cites his time as an architecture graduate and the release of his furniture collection at last year’s Art Basel, as reasons for wanting to collaborate with IKEA. “IKEA provides a landscape – fertile soil for new ideas and concepts. My duty then, is to provide something provocative,” says Virgil of the collaboration. “Given how tremendous this opportunity is, I’m not content to make another chair.”

Although the release date for the launch has not been set, you can satisfy your IKEA x OFF-WHITE needs at the 19 minute mark where Virgil talks about the collaboration in the video below.
