Of all the extravaganza red carpet events that take place every year, the Met Gala 2017 is definitely on top of the list. The ball marks the grand opening of the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute and is celebrated according to the theme of the annual exhibition. This year’s theme is “Rei Kawakubo / Comme des Garçons”. We are already excited for all the avantgarde creations the crème de la crème of the industry will be presenting on the 1st of May. If you need to bridge some time until Monday, we’ve got you covered, with our favorite Met looks of the past years.
1. Rihanna in Guo Pei (2015)
Even though this dress has probably written fashion history as “The Pizza Dress” due to all the memes that flooded the internet afterwards, we thought it was quite a badass look. But we actually never expected anything else from RiRi.
2. Taylor Swift in Oscar de la Renta (2014)
Looking like a princess (but a strong and powerful one), Taylor Swift’s red carpet look in 2014 was defnitely a dream. We are especially astounded by those ruffles at the back. Wow.
3. Zendaya in Michael Kors (2016)
Zendaya looks mind-blowing in this sophisticated bronze dress by Michael Kors, and shows that even a simpler silhouette can be anything but boring. And we cannot even find words for that h-a-i-r-c-u-t.
4. Solange Knowles in David LaPort (2016)
It might has been a hint to her sister’s album Lemonade that made Solange wear this citrus colored number at Met in 2016. But whatever reasons she had, she definitely looked stunning.
5. Sarah Jessica Parker in Alexander McQueen (2006)
A real throwback moment is this look that style icon SJP rocked in 2006. A nice, punk-rock take on that year’s British theme.
